Virtual Care

Sometimes you need the services of a specialist that isn’t in the area, would like to take advantage of technology for family healthcare appointments, or have an emergency that benefits from the immediate input of a specialist . McKenzie Health System has invested the time and resources to harness technology in a way that brings world class healthcare to the Sanilac County area.

Televisits for Family Healthcare

The family healthcare clinics at McKenzie Health System have several options which allow you to connect with your primary care provider, including televisits, phone call consultations, and in-person appointments.

Televisits are simply a way of connecting with your provider using a smart phone, tablet, or computer, from the safety and comfort of your home. McKenzie uses a program called “Healow” to connect with patients. This is a HIPAA-secure program designed specifically for healthcare.

To schedule an appointment, simply call the clinic, and staff will help you select an option and help you prepare for your visit.

Not all appointments can take place using televisits and phone consultations. Your family healthcare clinic will be happy to discuss the options that fit your current appointment needs.

Televisits for Rehabilitation

While in person visits for rehabilitation therapies are preferred, we realize sometimes circumstances don’t allow for in-person. That is when televisits are a good option for some physical, occupational, and speech therapy appointments. Most insurance providers, including Medicare, now cover these televisit appointments the same way they do for in-person visits.

Televisits offer patients a way to connect with a physical therapist using a smartphone, tablet or computer with a program called “QLIQ.” Physical therapists can demonstrate exercises and clients can do so in return, with the physical therapist offering instruction and updates. Both current and new patients are welcome to make an appointment at 810-648-0210; or they are welcome to call to determine if their needs can be met with telemedicine. In-person appointments are also available.

For more information, call 810-648-0210. You can also visit https://mckenziehealth.org/services/rehabilitation-services to view how MHS is using televisits for physical, occupational, and speech therapy and to learn more about all rehabilitation services available at this location.

Enhanced Emergency Treatment for Stroke

Our Emergency Department utilizes telemedicine to provide highly specialized stroke care. This is good news for our patients and the community seeking advanced stroke care. Telemedicine provides real and expert healthcare using advanced telecommunications technology and specially adapted equipment. This technology enables expert medical specialists from any location in the country to evaluate, diagnose and treat McKenzie Health System patients quickly. Telemedicine devices are no longer a novelty, but are now part of standard medical practice used daily all over the world.

The Michigan Telemedicine Network

MyMichigan Health, including MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw, provides the Telemedicine Network, to connect certified stroke centers with smaller, rural hospitals throughout Michigan to expedite treatment for patients.

Specialists are connected via advanced robotic technology to the McKenzie Health System ER, to help evaluate and treat patients. The connection to these Primary Stroke Centers is available 24 hours a day.

Stroke requires immediate emergency treatment and the Telemedicine network at McKenzie Health System helps minimize delays. This improves the opportunities for treatment and ultimately improves outcomes for patients.

At the first sign of stroke, McKenzie Health System is ready for you.

Equum Medical – Acute Care Telehealth

McKenzie Health System has taken steps to bring specialty care to the hospital campus. What does this mean for the community? It means, in more cases, patients can remain close to family and friends while they receive treatment and recover. This is being done through a partnership with Equum Medical.

Equum Medical's Multi-Specialty Telehealth service provides intensivists who are board-certified physicians trained to care for critically ill patients. Their mission is to deliver comprehensive remote consultative healthcare across various medical subspecialties, enhancing access to specialized care, optimizing resource utilization, and reducing unnecessary transfers and care delays. Through standardizing care protocols, reducing unnecessary transfers, and avoiding delays in care due to lack of access, Equum Medical provides expert care with diagnostic testing and treatment options for patients. This approach enables emergency departments to improve patient outcomes, reduce wait times, and enhance the overall quality of care.
