Sandusky Community Hearts Donates to McKenzie Foundation

The Sandusky Community Hearts recently made a $500 donation to the McKenzie Health System Foundation. The group learned of a “Secret Santa” campaign that was announced with a private donor offering to match up to $10,000 in funds that come in before the end of 2019.

“We are so appreciative of the generosity of this wonderful group,” said Nina Barnett, McKenzie Health System Foundation Manager. “These individuals are known by many as supporters of our local community and we are so grateful to have them here.”

The Community Hearts is a Sandusky, Michigan-based 501(c)3 organization comprised of 19 volunteers. They hold two annual fundraisers – a flower sale near Mother’s Day and a sale of cheese spread near Thanksgiving. The profits from these fundraisers enable the group to support other charitable organizations and fundraising efforts. They also offer annual scholarships and support the children’s backpack and lunch programs, local golf outings, walks, reward dinners, and projects that help the homeless. In addition, they participate with 3 other organizations to put on “Light Up Their Lives”, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony which is held the first weekend of December on the Sanilac County Courthouse lawn. The Community Hearts also organizes the annual Scarecrow display in downtown Sandusky every October to decorate the town for fall harvest and bring visitors into Sandusky to support local businesses.
