Sanilac County, Mich. – Thanks to a generous grant from the Sanilac County Community Foundation, McKenzie Health System has added a new portable vein finder to its list of tools for patient care. This handheld device uses infrared technology to make it easier for medical staff to locate veins, helping improve comfort and efficiency during blood draws and IV placements.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve our patients’ experiences,” said Billi Jo Hennika, Chief Operating Officer at McKenzie Health System. “This grant from the Sanilac County Community Foundation made it possible for us to bring an important resource into more settings throughout our community. We truly appreciate their support.”
McKenzie has been using vein-finding technology within its hospital for some time, but this additional unit adds the flexibility to take that same level of care on the road. The device will be used during visits to senior living communities, local employers, health events, and even in patients' homes when needed.
Designed to assist with difficult-to-access veins, the technology is especially helpful for young children, older adults, and individuals with chronic health conditions. Along with improving patient comfort, the tool is expected to reduce the number of needle sticks needed and increase first-attempt success rates.
“We’re excited to see how this tool helps us reach more people and provide a smoother experience, wherever they are,” Hennika added. “Support from partners like the Sanilac County Community Foundation makes a real difference in rural healthcare.”
