Sanilac County, Mich. – Navigating life with diabetes can be challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. McKenzie Health System is launching a new monthly Diabetes Support Group, inviting Sanilac County residents living with diabetes, along with their caregivers and loved ones, to join. The group will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Sandusky First United Methodist Church, located at 68 Lexington Street, Sandusky, Michigan.
The support group will meet on the first Tuesday of every month from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and will be led by Diabetes Support Group Coordinator Sandra Fleischman CPSS, CHW from Sanilac County Community Mental Health. The group is designed to provide a welcoming environment where individuals with diabetes, both type 1 and type 2, can come together for education, emotional support, and the opportunity to share experiences. Caregivers and community members connected to those with diabetes are also encouraged to attend.
"Managing diabetes is a journey, and having the right support can make all the difference," said Kris Kreiner, RD, Registered Dietitian and Diabetes Quality Coordinator at McKenzie Health System. "This group offers a space where people living with diabetes and their loved ones can connect, learn from one another, and gain the tools they need to live healthier, more empowered lives."
Each session will include discussions on managing diabetes, along with tools, resources, and strategies for living a healthier life. Attendees will have the chance to connect with others facing similar challenges and seek guidance from an expert in nutrition and diabetes care.
Refreshments will be provided, and participants are encouraged to ask questions and share their experiences.
This valuable community resource is free of charge, but registration is required. For more information and to register, visit www.McKenzieHealth.org or call 810-648-0592.
