RetinaVue Diabetic Eye Exams Now Available at McKenzie After-Hours Clinic

Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of vision loss in adults in the United States and it’s something everyone with diabetes is at risk for, however, yearly diabetic retinal exams can prevent 95 percent of vision loss due to retinopathy, according to the National Eye Institute. To that end, McKenzie Health System now offers affordable and accessible RetinaVue diabetic retinal eye exams.

The exams, which only take about five minutes, do not require the eyes to be dilated and are covered by most forms of insurance. Results are shared with the primary care provider for added convenience. RetinaVue is a digital camera designed to take high-resolution images of the retina, supporting efficient diagnoses of retinal issues, including diabetic retinopathy as well as macular degeneration and glaucoma.

“An annual eye exam is one of the simplest and smartest things anyone with diabetes can do to help preserve healthy vision and to ensure a quick diagnosis of any eye-related issues,” said Heather Chambers, Director of Healthcare Practices at McKenzie Health System. “We are really pleased to add this service to support better community health.”

RetinaVue retinal eye exams are now available at the McKenzie After-Hours Clinic which is located at 74 S. Elk Street in Sandusky, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and weekends and holidays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.
