Local Art Students Participate in National Rural Health Day

Sanilac County, Mich. – National Rural Health Day was celebrated by McKenzie Health System and other organizations around the country on November 19 this year. Each year on the third Thursday of November, the National Organization of States Offices of Rural Health focuses on honoring the “can-do” spirit that prevails in rural America while bringing to light the unique healthcare challenges that rural citizens face – and showcase the efforts of rural healthcare providers, State Offices of Rural Health and other rural stakeholders to address those challenges.

As part of our local celebration, schools were invited to have their art students create a piece they felt represented what rural means to them. Entries were photographed and posted to the McKenzie Health System Facebook page as part of an online art contest, giving community members an opportunity to vote by liking or loving entries.

The winners this year are: 1st place–Karli Kreger, with 167 votes; 2nd place–Dakota Chappel, with 135 votes; and 3rd place–Isabella Drabant, with 134 votes.

“We are impressed each year with the variety of entries we receive and the talent right here in our community,” shared Billi Jo Hennika, Chief Operating Officer at McKenzie Health System. “It is inspiring to see the value these students place on rural healthcare!”
