MHS Receives $5,000 Grant from Sanilac County Community Foundation for Emergency Assistance

McKenzie Health System was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Sanilac County Community Foundation’s new Emergency Assistance Grant Fund for “local organizations that are going above and beyond their typical operations to assist the community during this time.” The grant funds will be used to purchase additional personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies for the organization.

As the McKenzie Health System grant application noted, “With a 24/7, 365 broad-based community mission and the limits of a challenging not-for-profit budget, charitable gifts are critical resources even in the best of times. As the reality of COVID-19 becomes apparent, it will have a significant impact on the finances of our local hospital.”

Recently, McKenzie Health System has purchased a greater supply of PPE to protect staff and patients as well as infrared thermometers for staff and community checks. Additional needs include surgical gowns, aerosol adapters, plexiglass for the front lobby, supplies for negative pressure rooms, and more.

The Sanilac County Community Foundation is a collection of endowed funds, contributed by many individuals, corporations, private foundations, and government agencies to benefit the Sanilac County area; the Foundation gives out more than $200,000 in grants and scholarships each year.
