McKenzie Health System is excited to announce the return of its Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program effective June 15, 2020. This service supports those with chronic lung diseases such as COPD, asthma, interstitial fibrosis, sarcoidosis, and lung cancer. The program, which originally launched last fall, was temporarily paused as COVID-19 hit the state. The hospital also offers a Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, which resumed last month.
Both medically supervised programs include a focus on the “road to recovery” including pain management, diet, and exercise, stress management, medication, and more. Designed to increase heart and/or lung health, the rehabilitation programs promote health and wellness, manage risk factors and tackle everyday sources of stress. They both take place at the hospital campus.
“Pulmonary rehabilitation offers the best option for patients with symptomatic, chronic airflow diseases,” said Medical Director Dr. James L. Sams of McKenzie Health System, who is directing both programs. “It does not reverse or stop the progression of the disease; however, alleviating symptoms can benefit overall health and improve quality of life.”
As part of the heightened safety protocols implemented at the hospital, patients will be screened and asked to wear a mask. If a patient does not have a mask, they will be provided one. McKenzie staff members are also screened every day upon entering the building and are required to wear masks when unable to maintain social distancing and when working with patients.
