MHS Awards 3 McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarships to Local Students

Supporting the next generation of medical professionals, McKenzie Health System recently awarded three McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarships to local students interested in pursuing healthcare professions.

Rylie Kolakovich of Croswell-Lexington High School was awarded a $500 scholarship to Oakland University, where she plans to study Biomedical Sciences as she works to reach her goal of becoming a physician. Mikayla Coombs, also of Croswell-Lexington High School, received a $500 scholarship to attend Hope College and pursue her dreams of becoming a surgeon, and Elizabeth Binder of Deckerville High School was awarded a $500 scholarship, which she will use to pursue a career as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Grand Valley State University.

The McKenzie Medical Staff Merit Scholarships are awarded annually to Sanilac County graduating high school seniors entering an accredited college or university and planning to become a healthcare professional. Selection criteria are based on academic achievement, community service and accomplishments.

“We are delighted to support Rylie, Mikayla and Elizabeth in achieving their education and career dreams,” said James L. Sams, MD, Medical Director.

“As a provider, it is extremely rewarding to be able to assist the next generation of medical professionals. We are so proud of these 3 young people and are thrilled to see them pursuing a career in healthcare,” added Nicole DeMarco, DNP, FNP-C.
