McKenzie Health System is proud to announce the launch of its Special Caregiver Training series, designed to provide meaningful education and support for caregivers in our community. The first training, Healthy Living for Your Brain & Body, will take place on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the McKenzie Health System Back Dining Room, 120 Delaware St., Sandusky, MI. A light lunch will be available for $5.
This first session will explore the latest research on lifestyle choices that can support brain and body health as we age, with practical strategies caregivers can use for themselves and their loved ones. This training is an extension of McKenzie Health System’s monthly Alzheimer’s Disease Support Group, which meets on the first Friday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Upcoming 2025 Caregiver Training Topics, which are part of the Empowered Caregiver Series, Include:
- February 7: Building Foundations of Caregiving – A person-centered approach to caregiving and stress reduction.
- March 7: Supporting Independence – Balancing safety and independence in daily activities.
- April 4: Communicating Effectively – Navigating changes in communication with family and professionals.
- May 2: Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors – Practical approaches to behavior management.
- June 6: Exploring Care and Support Services – Planning for care needs, including respite and end-of-life care.
"Caregivers play an essential role in the lives of those they support," said Alecia Parks, Hospital Social Worker and Alzheimer Support Group Leader at McKenzie. "Through this training series, we aim to provide caregivers with valuable tools, knowledge, and community connections to make their journey a little easier."
Attendees are encouraged to participate in both the training sessions and the monthly support group to build a strong network of care and resources.
