Title: Student Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Department: Laboratory
Status: Full Time- 40 hr., Variable Shift.
Hours: Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.
Job summary:
The Student Medical Laboratory Technician (SMLT) functions under the direction of the Director of Laboratory and the Laboratory Medical Director, and/or the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist to: Perform multiple automated and manual tests, assess specimens for correct handling and quality, perform and evaluate quality control, perform periodic maintenance and assist in calibration of instruments, communicate information to healthcare providers, perform clinical laboratory testing in multiple areas of the laboratory in a proficient, knowledgeable manner following routine laboratory standards/practices and hospital policies and procedures, for which he/she has been prepared and had supervised experience in the MLT Program and orientation program.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:

- Currently enrolled in an accredited MLT program.
- Successful completion of clinical rotations through respective laboratory areas (chem, heme, blood bank, etc.).
- BLS-Healthcare Provider Certification required within 3 months of hire, if do not hold current card.
- Demonstrates ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians and all other support hospital & external personnel
- Able to prioritize and plan work activities, using time efficiently.
