Title: Patient Access Services Clerk
Department: Patient Access Services (PAS)
Status: 24 hours/week – Part Time Hours may be adjusted in response to workload demands; must be able to work flexible hours and weekend/holiday rotation. Low census may be utilized in accordance with hospital policy.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:
- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma required.
- Knowledge of health insurance verification/co-pay/coinsurance/deductibles/collecting payment, preferred.
- Previous experience with computer systems, required.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology, preferred.
- Ability to read, write and speak English language.
- 1 to 2 years previous experience as biller/registration clerk/customer service, preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, required.

- Knowledge of/or ability to learn to use various office equipment including: computers, multiple computer software programs, copiers, fax, printers, multi-line phone system, and other office equipment.
- Ability to type efficiently and spell accurately.
- Clear diction and good hearing are essential for interviewing and communicating with customers.
- Ability to effectively communicate with angry customers, guests in a manner that reflects a professional and caring approach.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
Role/Position Definition: Arranges for the efficient and orderly registration of patients and ensures that accurate patient demographic information is entered in HIS, ensures insurance information is collected and verified, reviews patient insurance coverage and uses estimator to determine amount due, collects payments; Serves as switchboard operator; Serves as customer service representative, cordially greets and receives hospital guests, ascertains their needs, and appropriately directs visitors and callers. Performs multiple clerical duties including the scheduling of patients for clinics and OP services; Acts as a communication resource for all customers, visitors and guests.
