Clinical Information Specialist/Educator – RN (FT)
Department: Nursing Services
Hours: Primarily Day Shift. Hours may be adjusted in Status: Full Time – 40 Hours per week
response to workload demands. Low census may be utilized
in accordance with hospital policy.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:

- Training in a healthcare related field, required.
- 3 to 5 years of experience with the use of databases, preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience and demonstrated skill in the use of computer software (including MS Windows, Word, Excel, Access and other database applications, required.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, or comparable equivalent, required.
- Current licensure by Michigan Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, required.
- Two (2) years previous experience in Clinical Information Specialist or EMR Super User, preferred.
- Knowledge of current healthcare trends, principles of management, federal, state and local laws and regulatory requirements, preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in the field of clinical nursing or equivalent, preferred.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, written and active listening communication skills.
- BLS required within three months of hire.
- Knowledge of Clinical Information Software Systems and database software.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current trends and changes in health care, information technology, and HIPAA security/privacy regulations.
- Demonstrates ability to establish good working relationships and effective communication with patient’s, families, physician’s and all other hospital personnel.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in working with Medical Staff, Multidisciplinary Teams and Outside Committees.
- Demonstrates the ability to function in a leadership position by serving as a resource person and assuming leadership role, when indicated.
- Demonstrates ability to adapt to change and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a stressful situation while maintaining composure, excellence and a positive attitude.
- Collaborates and communicates to optimize functionality & interoperability of EMR & other systems for safe and effective patient care.
- Demonstrates ability to assess & teach to all levels and collaborate with managers for up to date skills and educational needs.
Job summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services and with limited supervision and broad general direction, serves as the hospital Clinical Information Specialist/Educator, overseeing continual electronic improvements/progress and issues/needs related to clinical information software to achieve optimum use of the hospitals software system; Will initially complete departmental Clinical workflow training in Med. Surg, ED and Surgical Service Departments. Serves as the hospital resource person who will assist in educating and training to nursing staff and providers on the use of computer software programs. Will assist Med. Surg, ED and Surgical Service Department in the development and maintenance of computerized spreadsheets and databases to enter information and generate reports. Assesses Med. Surg, ED and Surgical Service Department workflow to determine performance improvement opportunities and recommends change as required to fulfill hospital goals and mission. Work with Clinical IT Specialist to determine how updates will affect the clinical nursing workflow and delivery of care from a quality perspective.
